Available Vacancies and Fields

NTRO is offering 75 vacancies across various fields. The breakdown of vacancies by subject is as follows:

  1. Electronics & Communication – 35 vacancies
    Includes 2 reserved positions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) under the Hard of Hearing (HH) category.
  2. Computer Science – 30 vacancies
    Includes 2 reserved positions for PwBD under Locomotor Disability (One Arm/One Leg) or Dwarfism/Acid Attack Victim categories.
  3. Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing – 5 vacancies
  4. Mathematics – 5 vacancies

These positions are open across multiple categories (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS), with reservations provided as per government rules.


Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must hold a first-class degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s, depending on the subject) from a recognized institution. Specific requirements for each field are:

  • Electronics & Communication: First-class Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in disciplines like Electronics, Applied Electronics, Radio Physics, or any relevant field of communication and instrumentation technology. GATE paper code: EC.
  • Computer Science: First-class Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields dealing with data science technologies. GATE paper code: CS.
  • Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing: First-class Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geo-Informatics, Remote Sensing, Civil Engineering, or related fields. GATE paper code: GE.
  • Mathematics: First-class Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields; or a Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology with Mathematics and Computing. GATE paper code: MA.

Candidates must be passed a valid GATE score from 2022, 2023, or 2024.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 30 years as of the closing date (November 8, 2024).
  • Relaxations:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
    • PwBD: 10 years
    • Central Government employees: Up to 5 years
    • Additional relaxations as according to Government of India rules.

Pay Scale and Benefits

Selected candidates will be appointed in Level-10 of the Pay Matrix as per the 7th Pay Commission, which ranges from Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500. In addition to the basic pay, the following benefits are provided:

  • Special Security Allowance: 20% of basic pay
  • Dearness Allowance (DA)
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) or Government Accommodation (subject to availability)
  • Transport Allowance
  • Medical facilities under CGHS/AMA for self and family

Selection Procedure

The NTRO recruitment process is highly competitive and includes two stages:

Stage 1: Written Examination (CBT-Based)

The first stage is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) with 100 objective-type questions carrying 200 marks. Key details are as follows:

  • Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Negative Marking: 0.5 marks for each incorrect answer
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks:
    • Unreserved: 50%
    • Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/EWS): 40%

The syllabus for the written exam is available on the official website of NTRO. Candidates must prepare thoroughly, as the questions will test their technical knowledge in the subject they are applying for.

Stage 2: Interview

Shortlisted candidates based on their GATE score and performance in the written exam will be invited for an interview in New Delhi. This stage carries 50 marks, and the minimum qualifying marks are:

  • Unreserved: 50%
  • Reserved categories: 40%

Final selection will be based on a 50:30:20 weightage:

  • 50% for GATE Score
  • 30% for Written Exam
  • 20% for Interview

Tie-breaking criteria:

  1. Higher GATE score
  2. Higher marks in the written examination
  3. Older age

The NTRO reserves the right to introduce a normalization method if required to ensure fairness in scoring.
